“Vanilla Sex” exhibit in Jaffa – things are heating up!

Here is a brief summary of what has been happening in the past few days over the upcomming art exhibit, “Vanilla Sex” which I am participating in, as I understand it.

On Saturday, “Yideot Achronot” came out with a long full page article about how the Christians in Jaffa are outraged and the Bishop of Jaffa has spoken out against the exhibition. He has called for every Christian to not go to the show, and has placed pressure on the city of tel aviv to not allow the exhibit to take place in jaffa.

Today “Ha Haretz” picked up the story as well, and the curator of the show was interviewed on the radio and the city has been in touch with her threatening to not allow the show to take place.

The uproar is over one photograph which is a spin off from Leonardo Da Vinci’s last supper

Of course there wasn’t any problem with Tel Aviv museum (also under supervision of the city) showed David La Chapelle’s christ pictures chock full of nudity.

It seems to be the age old debate on freedom of expression vs. religious sensitivity.

I will continue to update if  I hear of any further developments.
