Despite religious and political resistance: fetish art exhibition called “Vanilla Sex”, dealing with passion and fetishism, will take place at the RUGINE design.

After countless trials, cancellations and pressures, the exhibition will open at March 10th and include the best of Israeli artists dealing with the subject of fetishism.

The exhibition was scheduled to open three months ago at the Museum of Jaffa, but was canceled and removed from the museum following objections and criticism from the religious sector.

A group of selected artists, both recognized and upcoming, will present the subject of fantasy, fears and ideas around fetishistic desire; a dialogue between what we tend to accept, (Vanilla sex, the missionary position as an icon), and what is considered abnormal, within the assumption that desire exists throughout our culture and society.

The exhibition will deal with all aspects of this broad topic while examining different preferences, various life styles and types of passions, with the attention focused on fetishes. Fetishes can pertain to the mystical qualities given to objects, sexual fetishes and commercial attitudes towards fetishism.  The exhibition will try to address the widest possible range of subjects pertaining to the arousal of passion and the relationship between fetishism and desire: the place where religion meets passion, desire for an impossible fantasy, arousal through objects, arousal by a physical place.

Curators Note: We have been preparing for over a year for this exhibition. We chose artists who excel in sculpture, installation and performance art, as well as paintings, photography, and video art. Although we are very experienced curators and artists, this will be the first time we have delved so deeply into this fascinating subject

The fact that the exhibition will now be taking place at RUGINE design excites us as the environment creates an intimacy with the art, that we believe will take the experience of the viewer to some very interesting places.
