Day 5/7 – Lazar visits Saks 5th Avenue – Nov. 21, 2011 A Daily Journal of New York

Monday, November 21, 2011, New York City – Day 5.

We all woke up slowly this morning.  Lazar and I were a little  “arted out”.  We had reached our saturation point, and it was time to explore New York City in a different way.

Kenny had some business to do in the diamond district (He sells very high quality jewelry), so we accompanied him on his business.  I heard alot of Hebrew and Yiddish on the streets, and many of the restaurants advertised as Kosher.

The stores were like the shook, with little booths each selling something different.  Since we hadn’t eaten breakfast, we went straight to lunch at this great all you can eat Italian restaurant, the Olive Garden. I started to feel sick – stuffed up nose & cough so I ordered an amazing cream of potato soup , and eggplant parmigiana.  The guys had salad and lasagna and pasta.

Good food, good prices and the best part – check out the view from our window- Time Square!

Now that we were fortified with lots of starches, it was time to take Lazar shopping.  Kenny by the way, knows all there is about shopping – he loves spending money on “good shit” – his closet is full of designer clothes. We decided to walk off the meal and head over to Saks 5th Avenue. The city was gearing up for Christmas!

God I LOVE New York City!  look at the colors! – No photoshop on these photos!

and then we entered into the biggest temple of Modern Times:

from the second I walked through the doors,  I was transported into a shrine of elegant capitalism.  Everything was designed to make you stop, smell, try, buy.  The colors, the music, the beautifully coiffed sales people.  Lazar and I followed Kenny like two puppies on his trail.  This was Kenny’s kingdom.  You could see in his strut, in his greetings of sales people by name. He whiffed us up to the 5th floor where his friend Lisa was waiting for us with a dresser room full of clothes already picked out for Lazar’s size.  Kenny and I sat in the plush dressing room chairs while Lazar started trying on his clothes:

WOW! WOW! WOW!  – everything he tried on look fabulous!

Clothes and manners do not make the man; but when he is made, they greatly improve his appearance   – Henry Ward Beecher

Suite & Shirt: Armani

Slacks and T-shirt: Saks

Shoes: Bruno Malgli

Anything else I could say would be superfluous. 🙂

As we left Sacks, Lazars’ conscience  was as heavy as his wallet was lighter.  Kenny and I spent the rest of the evening (and the rest of our stay in New York) convincing Lazar that the new clothes were worth every single cent.  (Of course it took coming home and hearing it from his girlfriend to finally convince him 🙂

As we left the store, it started to rain, so when we got to Kenny’s place, we decided to have an evening in and to order Chinese Take-Away.  Kenny pulled out a menu that was about five pages in small type.  It took us about half an hour just to figure out what we wanted……. chinese take-away! how I miss it here in Israel.

I could tell my cold was getting worse, so I settled for soup and rice, but Lazar ordered my favorite: mushu, and Kenny ordered some chicken thing.  The fortune cookies were the best through,

Lazar:  “As the purse is emptied the heart is filled”

Debi:  “Your artistic talents win the approval and applause of others” (according to last night, they got this one wrong! 🙂

Kenny: “You should be able to make money and hold on to it.”

Unbelievable! how do those Chinese know all that?

By now i was so stuffed up that Kenny had me drink this amazing wonder drug called Night quill – and I passed out in seconds.
